2007 Northern Range Ranch Roping Series Finals Results: Open Division
The NRRRS Open Division Finals was held in the Buckaroo Businesses Arena at the Superbarn on October 20th during the NILE. We had a great crowd, with much whooping and hollering in support of their favorite team!
Dawn Shryock, of Joliet, MT, as secretary and announcer kept things moving right along with the help of Sarina Holliday of Corvallis, MT. Herb French of Sheridan, WY, was our judge. Charlie Mackay of Billings, MT, was flagman/arena judge, and a great crew from the Huntley Project FFA helped move cattle.
All contestants were given Official NRRRS Finals 2007 shirts by Dally O & NRRRS, and for the first time ever, we had a father-son team win first place! Congratulations to you all!

2007 Northern Range Ranch Roping Series Finals Results: Novice Division
The NRRRS Novice Division Finals was held on Sunday, October 21. A total of 43 teams competed, and again, roping was tough! There were some mighty fancy loops thrown, the most notable being the Contra Viento thrown by Keith Bond, who I understand worked and worked on it the night before to perfect it…and wow, did he ever! A job well done by all!!!
Dawn Shryock was the announcer/scorekeeper, with Sarina Holliday helping her keep mind and soul together! Wally McLane was our judge...you have to give Wally a good hand for working so hard to be a good judge. He started judging last year with the assistance of Herb French, but with absolutely no background in roping. It is a tough job, but he is working hard at it! We appreciate his persistence! Ed Disney rode his nice sorrel mule Amos as he worked the arena as flagman/judge, and those great young folks from the Huntley Project FFA were a big help keeping the cattle going.
First Place went to Salvador Madrigal, Luis Velasco, and Staci Grosskopf, with 80 points, helped immeasurably by the Del Vientos thrown by Luis. They took home nicely balanced stainless steel snaffle bits made and sponsored by Tom Balding, and a check for $433.12.
Second Place went to Tony Leingang, Luis Velasco, and Staci Grosskopf, with 68 points. They were awarded heavy wool Ranch Coats sponsored by Buckaroo Businesses, and a check for $259.87.
Third Place went to Lonnie Clark, Cid Klebenow, and Scott Grosskopf, with 66 points. They took home Certificates for custom hats from the Atwood Hat Company, and sponsored by the same, and a check for $173.25.
Keith Bond took home the award for Fancy Heel with his Contra Viento, and Todd Hansen took the award for Fancy Head with his scoop shot. They were awarded Wild Rags by Lois, and sterling silver Conchos sponsored by Buckaroo Businesses.
The Hard Luck award went to Salvador Madrigal, who charged out to take a critter down, and managed to meet it belly to belly as it swung against the ropes, and both went down in a cloud of dust! He recovered nicely though, and managed to finish out the round! He received a hat cleaning and a hat cleaning kit from H Bar Hatworks/Mike Hodges.
All qualifiers and helpers received our official NRRRS Finals 2007 shirt from Dally O and NRRRS.
We would also like to thank our Sponsors: Stockman Bank, 1st Interstate Bank, Buckaroo Businesses, Tom Balding, Atwood Hat Company, Wild Rags by Lois, H Bar Hatworks/Mike Hodges, and Dally O. We couldn’t do it without you folks!
Be watching for our 2008 Schedule…due to come out in the spring!
Congratulations to you all, and see you at NEXT year’s Finals!
