1st Roping of the Season! Held April 13th, 2008 at Buck Brannaman’s arena
1st Roping of the Season! Held April 13th at Buck Brannaman’s arena south of Sheridan, WY. This event was hosted by Ed Disney, and what a fine job he did! Aunt Bee was there with her chuck wagon to provide the grub! The new rodear concept worked very well, the prizes were outstanding, the cattle just right, and we saw the highest total points ever won in a NRRRS sanctioned roping!!!!
We started a long loop contest at the Winter Series, and it was such a success that we continued it into the Regular Series. Those who sign up pay $10, and the winner takes all. In the women’s division, after 3 rounds no one had caught their critter, so that money rolls over to the next roping. In the Men’s Division, there were 9 entries, and in the end, Scott Grosskopf took the pot with his lengthy and clean shot.
We saw the highest total points ever won!!!!
Buck Brannaman, Scott Grosskopf and Dick Grosskopf won the Open Division with a whopping 92 points!! They had three nice, clean runs with no misses and 3 Johnny Blocker hip shots. They won nice, heavy saddle blankets from Kings in Sheridan.
Second place, with 90 points, went to Clint Johannes, Ed Disney and Bob Lile. They also had no misses on their runs, and took home rein chains from Sheridan Leather.
Third place, with 82 points, went to Scott Grosskopf, Caleb French and Bob Lile, who were awarded grab bags from Tom Balding Bits and nice slobber straps from Mat Moran.
Each of these teams also took home checks.
The Fancy Head Award went to Dick Grosskopf for his remarkably long houlihan, and he was awarded a beautiful Marsh bit from Sheridan Leather.
Fancy Heel went to Buck Brannaman, and he was awarded a nice headstall from Buckaroo Businesses out of Billings, MT.
In the Novice Division, First Place, with 66 points, went to Staci Grosskopf, Scott Grosskopf and Cid Klebenow. They took home a check and new ropes from Buckaroo Businesses (guaranteed to catch!)
Two teams tied for Second Place with 52 points, and after figuring the average times, the prize went to Crystal Lenhart, Mat Moran and Jared Wagner, who took home checks and handmade spur straps from Bob Douglas.
Third place went to Larry Barbula, Caleb French and Salvador Madrigal who were awarded good heavy saddle blankets from Sheridan Seed along with their checks.
Fancy Head Award in the Novice Division went to Larry Barbula, who won a nice headstall from Buckaroo Businesses.
Fancy Heel went to Cid Klebenow, who was awarded some fancy oxbow stirrups from Paul Van Dyke Saddlery.
All these teams are now qualified for the finals in October! Again, we want to thank Ed Disney for all the hard work he did to make this roping a great success!!
Be sure to come to the next roping taking place the first weekend of June in Conrad, MT. John and Candy Balkenbush are fine hosts, and the indoor arena is great! This will be a 2-day deal, so bring your bed rolls, and plan to spend the weekend. They have stalls available for a small fee. Give them a call at 406-278-3569 to reserve yours!
